Owen Sound resident charged with Double Doctoring and Fraud
On November 26, 2002 the Ontario Provincial Police, Anti-Rackets and Drug Enforcement Section, Health Fraud Investigation Team completed an investigation into a individual falsely obtaining prescription narcotic drugs by double doctoring. The investigation revealed that a 32 year-old male from Owen Sound visited 4 doctors and 6 pharmacies in the Toronto and Grey County area between April 2001 and April 2002 and obtained prescription drugs by fraud that were billed to the Ontario Drug Benefits Plan. Robert Fearnall, 32, of Owen Sound was charged on October 26, 2002 with 222 counts of Double Doctoring contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act and one count of Fraud Under $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code. He is to appear in court in Owen Sound on December 19, 2002. The Anti-Rackets Health Fraud Investigation Team is a team of OPP investigators dedicated to investigate on behalf of the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care allegations of fraud relating to the Ontario Health System.
