CHARGES LAID
As a result of an investigation by the OPP Health Fraud Investigation Team, Dr. Paul Truelove of the Danwood Chiropractic Clinic at 1985A Danforth Ave. Toronto was charged on October 17, 2002 with Fraud Over $5,000, contrary to Section 380(1) of the Criminal Code. He is to appear in court in Toronto on November 26, 2002.

The investigation found that Dr. Truelove had submitted approximately 800 false claims totalling $8,000 for services that were not rendered in the names of 14 former patients for the period of April 1996 to January 2002.

SENTENCING
As a result of charges laid by the OPP Health Fraud Investigation Team, Pharmacist Louis Lam of Liverpool Pharmacy plead guilty in Toronto on October 15, 2002 to Fraud Over $5,000, contrary to Section 380(1) of the Criminal Code in relation to submitting false claims of $45,544.40 to the Ontario Drug Benefits program between January 1, 1994 and January 31, 1998.

He received a conditional sentence of 12 months of which the first 6 months shall be house arrest. He was also sentenced to 100 hours of community service, a fine of $5,000 and paid restitution of $45,544.00 to the Minister of Finance. Lam was prohibited from receiving further direct payments from ODB.
